The motivation behind this research is to make a quantum computer and quantum internet to solve the problems with security and computational power. One way to reach this goal is to use photons as the elementary unit of quantum information known as qubit. They travel with speed of light and they dont interact with surrounding. But there these two advantages crates an interesting research topic of how to store them and retrieve them on demand using solid state system and this is what my research topic addresses. It involves study of material, quantum system, energy level structure, experimental setup and characterization etc.
Applications: A possible application of my research could be an information system that needs high levels of security, for instance an information system used by banks or financial institutions where the state of the carrier is altered when one tries to intercept the information/ signal being transferred/ processed. It is commonly known as quantum information transfer.
