Soot emissions from combustion systems pose significant environmental and health concerns. This research within the ESTiMatE project consortium focuses on developing advanced soot models to understand and predict soot formation in combustion systems relevant to the aviation industry. The approach involves coupling a detailed sectional method-based soot model with the Flamelet Generated Manifold (FGM) tabulated chemistry under the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) framework. This coupling enables efficient simulations of soot formation and evolution of particle size distributions. The LES-FGM-DSM approach proposed in this work is versatile, extending successfully to different combustor architectures and covering a wide range of operating conditions. The research contributes to a deeper understanding of soot formation and offers a computationally efficient solution for predicting soot evolution and size distribution in practical combustion system applications.
