We have aimed towards improvement of women’s health, through our research. Most women suffer from childbirth related injuries in their pelvic floor muscles. Symptoms which include loss of support of these muscles, occur typically decades after the injury. Ultrasound (US) is commonly used to diagnose whether these muscles are damaged or not. But the US images do not show the extent of damage. Thus, we have developed a method to track and measure strain in the deforming muscle, to see how much of the muscle shows damage. This could help in choosing what kind of treatment would benefit the woman. Also, our method can be used to quantify if the muscle responds positively to treatment from before to after treatment, which is an improvement from the currently available qualitative assessment.
