How to cope with stress by using bio-feedback

What can the HeartMath® program “Building Personal Resilience” do for you, especially in times of stress?

In times of (high) stress you may feel that you lose grip on your thoughts, behavior and emotions. For example; you might have the same thoughts over and over again, even at night. Or you react more itchy to the people around you. Maybe you keep getting negative thoughts, varying from anger to feeling hopeless. You also may notice unpleasant reactions of your body, such as pain in neck and shoulders. If this is the case for a short time (eg in the last week for a deadline) most of the people are able to recover quickly. But if this lasts longer, there is a risk of getting overworked or even burnt out.

The “Building Personal Resilience”-program of the HeartMath Institute learns you how to better handle stress reactions and how to develop more intelligent approaches to self-regulation and renewing your energy. The result is that you are better able to prepare, handle and recover from difficult situations that cause stress.

The program is built up of seven sessions in which you learn what your standard reaction to a stressful situation is and how you can act differently. Bio-feedback (by means of looking at the Heart Rate Variability) is an important concrete indicator of the way your nervous system and hormone system are working together to build up your energy level. The bio-feedback helps to understand what’s ongoing inside your body, heart and brain, simply because your body does not lie.

As licensed HeartMath® Coach, Rutger offers the “Building Personal Resilience”-program for the Bright Institute.
